My previous BTEC Level 2 Information & Creative Technology course · Updated 6 October 2026

Unit overview

Grade: Level 2 Distinction (L2D) · Points: 48

I created multi-page websites with navigation menus, headers, content sections and footers. I used CSS to control layout, colours, fonts and spacing, and improved the user experience with clear page structures and simple navigation.

What I learned in Unit 13

Unit 13 – Website Development

Website Development was one of the most practical units in my Level 2 course.

I learned how websites are planned, designed, created and tested.

I developed understanding of:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Web page structure
  • Navigation
  • Layout
  • Images
  • Links
  • Responsive design
  • Testing

This unit increased my interest in website development.

HTML

I learned how HTML is used to create the structure of a web page.

HTML can be used for:

  • Headings
  • Paragraphs
  • Images
  • Links
  • Lists
  • Tables
  • Forms
  • Sections

Understanding HTML helped me see how websites are built behind the design.

CSS

I learned how CSS is used to control the appearance of a website.

CSS can control things such as:

  • Colours
  • Fonts
  • Spacing
  • Borders
  • Layout
  • Buttons
  • Page backgrounds

HTML provides the structure, while CSS improves the design.

Website Planning

Before creating a website, I learned to think about the target audience and purpose.

Planning can include:

  • Page structure
  • Navigation
  • Wireframes
  • Colour choices
  • Content
  • Images
  • User requirements

I learned that planning can save time and reduce mistakes during development.

Website Testing

I learned that websites should be tested before they are considered complete.

Testing can include:

  • Navigation
  • Links
  • Buttons
  • Images
  • Text
  • Different screen sizes
  • Browser compatibility
  • Layout

If a problem is found, it should be corrected and tested again.

Responsive Design

I learned that modern websites should work properly on different devices.

This includes:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Mobile phones

Responsive design improves the user experience because the website adjusts to different screen sizes.

Skills I developed

HTMLCSSFront-end developmentTeamworkProblem-solvingAttention to detail

Four presentations cover website comparison, planning, development, testing and evaluation of Karachi Fusion Wear.

Software I used

My assignment presentations use Microsoft PowerPoint. I built Karachi Fusion Wear using Google Sites and discussed HTML and CSS in my coursework.

Teacher feedback

I discussed ideas and layout problems with classmates. I have not posted written teacher feedback for this unit.

My reflection

I improved my ability to turn a design idea into a clear multi-page website and solve layout problems. My next step is to strengthen mobile responsiveness and accessibility testing.
